A 2,200 km Journey Across Germany in the Volkswagen Transporter Ocean

This October, we embarked on an unforgettable 2,200 km road trip across Germany in a 2023 Volkswagen Transporter Ocean edition camper van. Our route took us through vibrant cities and picturesque villages, including Munich, Füssen, Stuttgart, Bad Liebenzell, Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Heidelberg, Cologne, and Hamburg. With every kilometer, we enjoyed the freedom and comfort of this versatile van, equipped with a cozy kitchenette, spacious pop-up roof, and smart storage that made each stop feel like home.
Our journey was a mix of cultural exploration and scenic landscapes, from the bustling streets of Munich to the historic charm of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The Ocean edition’s smooth handling and reliable performance made it the perfect companion for tackling everything from mountain passes to autobahns, giving us the flexibility to make the most of every destination.
The Volkswagen Transporter is more than just a vehicle—it’s a true travel partner that embodies decades of innovation. Originally launched in 1950, the Transporter was designed as a straightforward utility vehicle but has since evolved into a modern icon. Today, newer models like the T6.1 and T7 carry forward this legacy with advanced safety, eco-friendly engines, and smart technology. In Germany, where environmental responsibility is highly valued, the Transporter’s modern models have become an enduring favorite, blending the spirit of exploration with sustainable mobility.
For those in Canada interested in the Volkswagen Transporter experience, the availability of models is more limited than in Europe. The Transporter has never been widely sold in North America, but some recent models, such as the T6 and T6.1, have been imported by specialty dealers. Vintage models from earlier generations (like the T4) can also be found, especially among VW enthusiasts and collectors.
If you’re inspired by the versatility and design of the Transporter, keep an eye out for specialty importers or consider custom-imported camper models. Volkswagen's focus on electric mobility means we might even see future models like the ID. Buzz camper van arriving on Canadian shores, blending classic style with sustainable technology.
